Psalm 71:17 - 18
Should be written by David when he was old.
Generation in terms of campuses, seniors, juniors and freshmen.
1) We are responsible for what happens in our Generation (v17)
David personally encountered the hands of God first hand.
In his best times, worst times. In his sins, he still comes back to God. He was super close to God.
David didn't have a very good legacy to continue because before him was Saul, who wanted to kill him. But David stayed strong cause he was close to God.
David took ownership for his own generation.
Every generation is responsible for their own choices.
NYC is our responsibility now.
When we first took over we probably inherited these problems.
But if after so long, issues are still there it's our responsibility to do some thing about it.
What would you do, how far would you go to do something about these troubles in NYC?
If we're doing well now, build upon the legacy. Don't let a good season lead to a state of complacency. In our time as a student, I'm not going to be the generation that drops the ball.
2) We are also responsible for what happens in the next generation (v17)
Build a foundation that lasts.
Judges 2:7. The Joshua generation.
Judges 2:10-12. In just one generation, all the glory of Joshua's generation collapsed.
Be intentional to build the next generation
2a) we are responsible for what we pass down.
Actively or passively. What are you actually passing down? What kind of mentality are we passing down? Gossiping or sowing seeds of disunity or discord. Good intent or gossip?
We might not even see the fruits of disunity.
Good stuffs: Psalm 71:18.
- Be intentional about who God is, what God has done.
- What God did in my generation, deliveries, family, studies. Tell of God's power, His mighty acts.
- To let the next gen know that, this campus is not ours, not the leaders, it's God's.
2b) we are responsible for who we leave behind
This final lap is not for us to be in a ORD mentality.
"I can sow one last seed". Run it well!
After we grad, after a few gen nobody will remember us, what we we done what we poured out. And that's okay.
But it's not okay that they dk Jesus.
