Taking Back Your Mind In The Age Of Anxiety 1
1 Peter 5:5-9
5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”[a]
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
v7 was not a new sentence but a continuation of v6.
Why sometimes we cast our anxiety on God but it keeps coming back is because we resist v6. HUMBLE URSELF. do i want to humble myself? or do i always want to be the best, the center of attention, the most important. By humble myself means I see how small I am, i'm a tinyyy child of God in the big mighty hands of God.
"to take back your mind you got to humble your heart"
1) hand of God recalls the sovereign hands of God when He rescued the Israelite from Egypt
- the hand of God to us is comforting, but to the Jewish context, the hand of God is confrontational.
- God told moses he going to use His mighty hands to deliver them and asked Him whats that in your hand? (two hands at work)
- who is in control? (God give you responsibility not sovereignty. dont make things about me)
Principal: I'm holding it but I'm not controlling it (mic analogy)
2) v8. Intoxicated in the age we live in, we're drunk and we don't even know it.
the devil wants to put us in a hypothetical tomorrows or put us in the past
the devil is LIKE a lion, but he is not a lion. he is loud but not a lion
