John 15:11

• You can’t endure what you don’t enjoy. Jesus could endure the cross because of the joy set before Him.

• In Jesus our joy should overflow.

• Moods matter. If what you believe about God doesn’t affect the way you feel about life do you really believe in God?

• God’s word will give inner illumination. It will light up the path. You can be a righteous person and still take the wrong route, go down the way of the wicked. Your mood aren’t supposed to be so mysterious that they lead you around.

• Our God is a holistic God, wants to spread to every part of our spirit.

Proverbs 4:18 - 23

1. Guard Your Heart

• Above all else, guard your heart. Do we guard all else above our heart? We watch what we eat, count the calories, count the sugar intake but we let grumbling get into our heart. Which is much more toxic to our lives. We protect our diets, we protect our skins better than we protect our hearts. “I know you have bug spray, insurance but is your heart guarded?”

• The attitude of your heart reflects the activity of your mind. Proverbs 23:7. There’s no such thing as a non emotional decision. Your faith affects your feelings or your feelings affects your faith.

• Keep your guard up and don’t let all sort of nonsense get into your heart. John Mayer said that celebrities would spend tons of money on security guards, but wake up every morning and let the horrible things that people say about them into their hearts. I can’t just let everybody and everything in. I can’t just believe everything i think.

• Matthew 15:11. What comes out of your mouth goes in your heart and what’s in your heart comes out of your mouth. You’re sabotaging yourself by what you speak and what you feel. “I just say what I feel”. That’s okay as long as you realize that you’re going to feel what you say.

2) Own Your Emotions

• “He just made me so mad”. It shows that we’re not taking ownership of our emotions. Why don’t you just say “I got angry,”

• Do we give somebody/someone the keys to our joy? We can’t guard what we don’t own. We don’t put up fences or security systems in our neighbours houses but we want somebody else to be responsible for our state of mind. Your Joy, is your job. “If you remain in me” that’s our decision, “my joy will be in you” that’s the result.

• Own your disfunction, own your discouragement, own your depression. Own our soul and emotions. Like a device, it can only give me back what I input into it. I don’t wake up every morning and consult my emotions asking them what kind of day we’re going to have today.

• David was a moody person. Psalm 42:11. Why my soul are you downcast - own it. But david questions it, because it’s not serving the purpose it should be. “Within me” - it’s not what was happening around me but within me. “Put your hope in God, for i will yet praise him” - David swings it.

• “It’s your decision, you can be miserable because of what they did to you 14 years ago. Or you can decide 14 years is long enough for me to be miserable and stuck. Swing that thing”

3) Change your Concentration

• Stop trying to change your concentration so much. Concentrate on your state of mind. Tune in to truth. Your attitude reflects your attention. Your frustration reflects your fixation. When peter lost concentration, he started to sink.

• Carry a pitcher of God’s joy. So He can pour it in until we overflow until whatever things that are concentrated in our hearts get diluted.
